Very very dark comedy. Rainn Wilson is superb

Very very dark comedy. Rainn Wilson is superb in his role as a deeply troubled EMS who yearns to get out of his chosen field, struggling with the burnout inherrent in it, he finds himself being an unwilling tutor to a new young recruit doing a ride a long. Right from the start the two do not get along, made only worse by Rainn's co-worker - an eaually jaded EMS also looking to get out. By no means is this a perfect film, but it's got some really touching moments that brought me to tears.

I just checked out "Code 3" and, man, it was a trip. I was expecting a typical comedy with Rainn Wilson, but this was surprisingly heavy. It follows two totally burned-out paramedics and a rookie over one crazy 24-hour shift, and it's a lot.What hit me was the authenticity-it really shows how tough the EMS job is. It doesn't shy away from the dark stuff, mixing some truly raw, emotional drama with moments of seriously dark humor. That constant tonal shift works, though. One minute you're laughing at their gallows humor, and the next you're totally punched in the gut by a tragic call.Wilson's performance as Randy is fantastic; you really feel his exhaustion and cynicism. He nails the snappy, fourth-wall breaking narration that clues you into the messed-up healthcare system. It's a bummer that the rookie character felt a bit generic, like just a foil for Randy.And it seems like an original story, co-written by a former paramedic, which makes sense why it feels so real.Is it worth watching? Absolutely. It's a compelling look at first responders. It's not just a comedy; it's a solid drama with real heart and respect for the people doing this impossible job. Go see it.

What a funny, tense, dramatic, and realizational ride. [+78%]

I expected a low-brow comedy on what it means to be a paramedic in 2025 USA, but Code 3 blew it out of the park for me. It not only brings in the laughs, but also effective social commentary, tense dramatic moments, and the unsparing emotions in between. Rainn Wilson (as Randy) is an absolute riot here, and superbly supported by Lil Rel Howery and Aimee Carrero. Yvette Nicole Brown and Rob Riggle also put in good performances. Randy breaks the fourth wall early on and speaks to the audience about the dire state of work for paramedics and their constant battle to save lives (..sometimes at least until patients make it to the hospital). The writing cleverly strikes a balance between situational hilarity and moments of shock that most of us won't see coming. The burnout does feel intense, plus the sorry state of health (both mental and physical) is alarming.. even when we, as viewers, barely witness 24 hours in the lives of our leads.Earlier this year, I watched Late Shift, a German drama about a dedicated nurse slowly experiencing a breakdown over the course of a single evening. Code 3 is the weirder, funnier American cousin to Late Night, one can say. Both films are gonna stay with me longer than I'd initially anticipated, and I get the feeling that the common denominators here include solid writing, direction, and lead performances. It also explicitly paints the American picture of pay disparity in the healthcare field, making even a couple of breakfast muffins not worth missing out on. The closing bits, while predictable, are heartfelt. Maybe, for these folks, humour is just passing relief.
