This film, the final installment in a trilogy about China’s Cultural Revolution, tells the story of Deng Meijuan, a stubborn widow haunted by mysterious threats linked to past sacrifices during the Revolution. As unexplained phone calls and acts of vandalism escalate, Deng suspects that a young man connected to a tragic event from her past is behind the terror, symbolizing the long-lasting consequences of historical injustices. The movie’s carefully paced narrative and strong performances effectively convey the emotional weight of guilt and unresolved conflicts, though some plot points, like Deng’s unquestioning trust in the mysterious youth, strain believability. "Dark but Unforgettable"

Wang Xiaoshuai, director of RED AMNESIA (selected at NYAFF 2015) talks on how cultural amnesia affects China today in everyday life. This haunting film portrays the struggles of an elderly widow who tries to care for her two sons through a generational divide. Add in elements of mystery and drama, Wang completes his "Cultural Revolution Trilogy" in dark but unforgettable fashion.

Red Amnesia premiered in Competition at Venice and won a Special Mention at the Munich International Film Festival. Wang Xiaoshuai's films have won the Jury Prize at Cannes and both the Grand Jury Prize and Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at Berlinale.
