So, when their ailing father asks them to drive a semitruck full of gifts and supplies from California to the isolated Alaskan village of Willow Creek, they agree ---- reluctantly. Along the way, they pick up trouble when they're joined by Jessie, who is Ray's estranged wife and Pete's ex-girlfriend. Then, a blizzard strands the truck deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Miles from help, with time running our fast, they realize only a miracle can save them. But, as they are about to be reminded, Christmas...is the season for miracles.

Some oddball scenes, where sexism is either ignored

Some oddball scenes, where sexism is either ignored or glorified and where fights are portrayed as laughable rather than alarming, detract from the film's interesting plot and character development.

This is by far the best Christmas movie

This is by far the best Christmas movie in the entire world. We have to watch it every year or else it's just not Christmas!

This movie pits Duke Boys Bo and Luke

This movie pits Duke Boys Bo and Luke against each other as brothers. A bit unusual for the two actors. This story's plot is simple - good guy versus bad guy, though it does twist away from this concept a few times. The brothers pretty much hate each other from the moment the movie starts. They lost their father as teenagers. Pete turned out pretty well. Ray has issues though. Their father's best friend and business partner for whom they drive trucks for, needs them to work together on a run of Christmas presents. They are taking a semi full of presents and a big surprise to Al's hometown in Alaska. The town recently lost a firm's canning business and there is little economy left in the town. Pete could have handled the run by himself but his rebellious son complicates the matter. Pete promises, for a change, to actually spent Christmas WITH his son instead of being on the road. That happens, but not the way he planned ... "I'd have to keep him [Mike, the son] handcuffed to the truck!" Ray is a rebel. He's married to Pete's ex-girlfriend. They hate each other. The hatred runs deep but they have to work together to get the load to Alaska in time for Christmas. They actually need each other and Ray MUST be with the truck when it arrives. I am not going to spoil the reason here. The movie has some rather cheesy music in it. Sorry to the performer -- it's C+ rating for the music, at best. I love country music but this movie could have benefited from better music. The story line is good, overall. There are some times when the plot is confusing. There is some good irony in the movie, as the "good guy" and "bad guy" do sometimes become the opposite of who they appear to be. Ray does have a heart and a brain. Pete is hurting for more than just Ray questionably stealing his girlfriend the year prior. In a way, you learn to hate and love things about both brothers. The ending still makes me try to figure it out -- and I am sure the authors intended you to be left puzzled by part of the ending. This is a good movie. This is lighter drama and not a lot of humor. Every time you think the trailer is not going to make it to Alaska on-time, one of the brothers will come through for the team. It's not expensive, so buy a copy on DVD. Give this movie a try. Overall, this is a 4-star for me because 37 years later, it is still a good movie. It is nice to see "Bo and Luke" NOT being cooperative with each other. That probably helps the story line.
