A Fairy Tale with Lip Gloss and Chaos

Chantal im Märchenland brings Germany's favorite clueless influencer back and this time, she's not just out of her depth in school but in an entire fantasy world. This hilarious adventure mixes pop culture, fairytale absurdity, and Gen Z humor in a way that's both self-aware and surprisingly clever.✅ What Worked1. Chantal Forever: Jella Haase once again nails her role as Chantal. Loud, naive, and endlessly endearing. Her comedic timing is impeccable, and her confidence in total nonsense is what makes her so magnetic.Smart Satire Beneath the Glitter: Beneath all the pink and selfies, the film actually skewers social media culture, beauty obsession, and the modern need for validation. All through the lens of classic fairy tales.3. Brilliant Production Design: The "Märchenland" (Fairyland) is gorgeously over-the-top. Think Barbie meets Shrek, with castles, unicorns, and influencers as princesses. Every frame bursts with color and irony.4. Sharp Script & Meta Humor: Dagtekin's screenplay doesn't just make you laugh. It pokes fun at the very idea of remakes, feminism in pop culture, and our obsession with being "main character" material.5. Surprisingly Empowering Message: Chantal's journey is about self-worth and friendship, not looks or likes. Though it never gets preachy. It's girl power with glitter and giggles.❌ What Fell Short1. Some Jokes Don't Land: A few gags feel stretched or outdated, relying too much on meme humor or influencer clichés.2. Predictable Plotline: The story follows a familiar "fish-out-of-water learns confidence" formula, but it's carried by the energy of the performances.3. Not for Everyone: The chaotic, social-media-saturated tone might feel too much for those expecting a traditional fairy tale or subtle comedy.✨ Favorite Quotes & Moments
"Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand. Wer hat das beste Filterland?"
"Ich bin keine Prinzessin, ich bin ein Brand."
"Hashtag Happily Ever After. Aber make it real."Unforgettable moments:
Chantal accidentally turning a fairy godmother into an influencer manager. Her "fashion show" at the royal ball. The scene where she lectures Cinderella about "toxische Romantik."
The chaotic final showdown featuring glitter bombs and empowerment slogans.? Final Thoughts
Chantal im Märchenland is pure, unapologetic fun. A fairy tale that trades glass slippers for high heels and morals for memes. It's silly, loud, and perfectly aware of it. Beneath the chaos, though, it's a surprisingly thoughtful take on self-image, identity, and what "happily ever after" really means in a world obsessed with validation.? If You Liked This, You Might Also Enjoy:1. Fack ju Göhte (2013-2017) - where it all began for Chantal2. Barbie (2023) - feminist satire wrapped in pink perfection3. Ella Enchanted (2004) - fairytale fun with a rebellious twist4. Enchanted (2007) - another heroine lost between fantasy and modern reality5. Mean Girls (2004/2024) - iconic, self-aware comedy about identity and belonging.

The entire Movie is a straight up insult to the viewers willing suspension of disbelief and to make it through you have to willingly suspend any and all function of your brain. One really has to ask the question how little anyone responsible for this cared about the general concept of Filmmaking as a whole, to think it was a good Idea, to take an extremely one-dimensional comic-relief-character from a Teenie-Franchise about a dysfunctional school and send her on an epic quest through a fantasy world with castles and dragons. All of this wouldn't even be half as offensive if the entire point of the character in question wasn't to point fingers and make fun of the lower class population, instead of asking the question what the issue with trapping and abandoning people in poverty could be, which should've been outdated even when the first movie of the franchise hit the cinema in 2013.German Film Funding will put money into anything that is backed by an already successful franchise (by domestic standards anyways) and you basically get free tax-payer money to fund absolute dumpster fires like these, keeping an entire film-crew busy that could've worked on something more meaningful in the meantime. But if you're a young, talented writer, who thinks outside the box and has ideas for something fresh, new or dare I say experimental even, good luck pitching any ideas to the officials responsible. So much talent going to waste in this broken industry. It's as if the Middle-Finger in the Movie's Poster was meant literally, insulting not only the viewer for watching this crap but also the entire-german movie industry, saying:"Look what we can get away with while you will never get to realize your dreams.". Poetry.

I do like Jella Haase very much, she is a pretty good actor and has acted serious characters like in "Kriegerin" and also Chantal in "Fack ju Göthe" were she was gorgeous and very funny. Also "Kleo" is the beste German tv-show I saw for a very long time. But this movie, I don't think it's meant for kids, it doesn't work (for me). It is silly, but not funny. And I was more surprised than disappointed about Jella trying to do her thing but - there was, to me, absolutely nothing of Chantal, except a covering with no content. It seemed to be the Chantal-Show ... episode 1028 ... To me, the jokes did not work! But I'm happily looking forward to "Kleo" that starts soon now. Let's hope, Jella has more fun with her ... ?
