CB4 is a decent satirical mockumentary that pokes fun at the rise of gangsta rap and the culture surrounding manufactured music personas. It’s not always consistent, but it has enough bite and energy to stay entertaining.
A young Chris Rock stands out with strong comedic timing and a natural screen presence. His performance helps anchor the film, even when some of the surrounding material feels a bit uneven.
The mockumentary style works well for the kind of industry satire it’s going for, mixing absurd humor with moments that highlight how image can outweigh authenticity. Some jokes are very much of their time, but that also adds to its retro charm.
Overall, it’s a solid 90s comedy with a sharp concept that doesn’t fully maximize its potential but still delivers laughs. Not a classic, but definitely an enjoyable watch. I’d rate it a 6/10.
