Depicting a gifted filmmaker with an uncompromising vision

Depicting a gifted filmmaker with an uncompromising vision, and a deft touch with all those around him, Road to Roma shows how a seed plucked from Cuaron's hippocampus grows into a complex set piece. He effortlessly and meticulously shows how truth grows from authenticity, as he goes to painstaking measures to ensure his memories are recreated. It is a sensory experience, speaking for and about the film whilst still speaking for itself. I love how it contrasts with the movie, as we're shown the world of Roma in full colour, and see how it sits in the real world, with all levels of mastery and professionalism behind it too. It's an extraordinary supplement to a great film, with immersive and mesmerising focus and warmth. Possibly overtakes ‘Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio: Handcarved Cinema' as my all time favourite making-of movie documentary??? I don't think this art zone Alfonso should ever return to again

This documentary reveals many interesting things, from the origins to the way director Alfonso filmed "Roma" scenes. Ultimately, it's difficult to find anything compelling about this type of documentary; what Alfonso says can be found on a few blogs, and in the end, the history lessons about riots seem particularly special but have little impact on most outsiders. I greatly appreciate Alfonso's talent and passion, but this work of his will only earn my respect, not my heart.
