Plot summary

The film plods along at a snail's pace

The film plods along at a snail's pace and the dialog is dull. By the time the film got interesting, i.e. when Claudel begins losing her grip on reality, I had checked out of this nearly three hour long snoozer. Too bad, because I began with a strong interest in the subject matter.

A haunting dive into the life of an artist ahead of her time, struggling with her own identity while love interferes with creativity. Ostracizing herself, she allows herself to believe the delusions in her head. This movie cements just how great an actress Adjani is, she's phe-no-me-nal in this. The way she let's herself loose in the moment of emotions is breathtaking.

Compelling depiction of artists with passion for their

Compelling depiction of artists with passion for their art and for love. When the love is rejected, abandoned the feelings are as deep. My words aren't eloquent but Adjani's performance is brilliant. She was one of the youngest actresses in France to have honors bestowed on her.The character inhabits her with all the complexities of how an artist perceives the world and becomes compulsive to create. Adjani's depiction of a passion that consumes her can't be reduced to "don't think he's really giving up anything for you" because that is not how she was created. Magnificent.
