The characters are rich, the movie is a bit flat. A series of events but none seems to move the story forward enough; instead the story sits pretty much in the same place most of the time. A metaphor for their resistance, but still feels flat.

Idealistic teacher tries to deal with a multitude of issues, both political and personal, in Tavernier's 1999 drama. The best aspect of the movie is that, even though several of the plot points are extreme, none of them are either poorly handled or unbelievable.
