Bunraku is one of the most visually distinctive

Bunraku is one of the most visually distinctive films I've seen. Guy Moshe creates a world inspired by Japanese theater, graphic novels, and spaghetti westerns, giving every frame a bold, theatrical look that's impossible to mistake for anything else. Even if the movie doesn't completely work, it's never boring to look at. The cast fully embraces that stylized world. Josh Hartnett and Gackt make an entertaining pair, while Woody Harrelson steals several scenes with his effortless charisma as the Bartender. The action is equally creative, favoring stylish choreography over realism in a way that fits the movie's unique aesthetic. Unfortunately, the visuals are far more memorable than the story. The revenge plot is fairly basic, the characters never become especially compelling, and the overly theatrical dialogue often creates emotional distance. I admired the ambition more than I enjoyed the film, but it's certainly one of the most original-looking movies of its era.

I struggle to see the plot in this movie and do not want to waste any further time trying to. It is all over the place. Great cast though.

Even if the movie hasn't reinvented the wheel

Even if the movie hasn't reinvented the wheel, it at least offers it in a different way. The color scheme and style may not appeal to everyone, but if you're looking for a change from the typical 0815, this could be the right film for you.
