Plot summary

On leave, a sailor falls in love with a young lady aspiring to become a Broadway dancer, but their relationship is jeopardized by an established Broadway star, who is also enamored by him.

If you take all the tap dancing numbers

If you take all the tap dancing numbers out, this might be a watchable film. For some reason, tap dancing was all the rage until the mid-50s and after that, it just appeared ridiculous. What was the allure and why did they do it? No one today would watch this type of dancing for hours.

First, the image/clip they're showing is for a much later movie than this entry refers to. As much as Eleanor Powell's dancing is amazing, the rest of her act doesn't make it for me. I watched this film specifically because it is very early James Stewart. He sings! The songs range from okay to wonderful. All in all, though, there are better musicals to be had.
