Plot summary

Teens P.J. and Goose get their thrills on BMX bikes, performing hair-raising tricks all across Sydney, Australia. Along with their new friend Judy, they discover a box of walkie-talkies -- and find out that a gang of criminals intends to use them to monitor police signals during a bank robbery. When the young trio snatches the devices, it propels them on a hair-raising adventure in which their pedaling skills might just save their necks.

The most exciting thing about BMX Bandits isn’t

The most exciting thing about BMX Bandits isn’t the BMX stunts, the slapstick robbers, or the Keystone Cops (these things are still exciting), it's 92 minutes admiring the beauty of 1980s Sydney, of pointing at the screen saying "How much is that house be worth now?!", and also it’s 92 minutes of marvelling at the lack of traffic jams. Admire also hearing 1980s Aussie accents (no naurs, no yeh nahs, no c***s). Admire Nicole Kidman being a trolley dolly and good actor, and Kidman being… kidnapped by the film’s antagonists: bank robbers! The plot, story, setting - good. The first 45 minutes are slow in terms of BMX content. The remaining minutes go gangbusters with BMX stunts, a valorous Valiant, and much more. 100s of BMXers attacking the robbers had Pelennor Fields hype. I was cheering! Had the robbers been smart, they should’ve bought a house or two: 1983-2026, Sydney houses increased 1,000%. A film chockers with fun, plausibility, and silliness.

Monkey see, monkey do ... unoriginal & cringeworthy. Lots of self-congratulatory backslapping from the fishbowl film clique but it's sitting there in the middle of the rug, hot & steaming.

Fun little kidventure movie with a baby faced

Fun little kidventure movie with a baby faced Nicole Kidman. It's not quite as memorable as I was expecting from a Trenchard-Smith film but it's still lots of fun. The plight the kids go through is pretty silly, but it's to be expected with a kids film like this.
