Plot summary

When schoolboy Wang Bao discovers a magical gourd that can instantly grant his every wish, the awkward child suddenly becomes a hero amongst his curious classmates. When the gourd proves more of a burden than a blessing and the boy decides to get rid of it, he quickly discovers that's easier said than done.

A Chinese movie with special effects done by

A Chinese movie with special effects done by Centro, which is based in Hong Kong, and dubbed by Disney for English speaking audiences. This film is about a young boy who learns that doing the work yourself is more fulfilling than having a magic gourd do all the work for you. The plot had the right idea, but wasn't paced very well and didn't set up the plot points well enough for them to pay off later. The acting is wooden at best, though that may be a cultural barrier. The Magic Gourd was computer animated and looked like a cheap Mr. Potato Head. The special effects do not get past a cartoonish look. Corbin Bleu, from The High School Musical movies, voices the Gourd and does alright with what he was given. I do not think this movie is worth your time, skip it.

This movie scarred me as a child. The Guord is ugly as hell. The part where he splits himself in half gave me nightmares. I found a picture of this monstrosity on google images, and it unearthed flashbacks I never knew I had. Please, spare the minds of your innocent children. Do not let them watch this cursed film.
