Plot summary

In the occupied Netherlands during World War II, banker Walraven van Hall is asked to use his financial contacts to help the Dutch resistance. With his brother Gijs, he comes up with a risky plan to take out huge loans and use the money to finance the Resistance.

I highly recommend this movie. It's not just

I highly recommend this movie. It's not just a reminder of the evil of the Nazis, it's also a magnificent tribute to those people who had the courage to do the right thing even at great personal risk. The stark contrast in personalities between the two Van Hall brothers helps drive home just what a difficult time this was, as they both faced execution if they were caught and both were strong in different ways. The story is never heavy handed, but there are not many light moments, either. If you want a film to help you relax and unwind, this might not be the best choice. Otherwise, it's an amazing look at unsung heroes who should be more widely celebrated.

I liked this movie. It is sober, intense, dramatic and overall, based on real, historic facts. Definitely it's a must-see period drama.
