Plot summary

Oppressed by her family setting, dead-end school prospects and the boys law in the neighborhood, Marieme starts a new life after meeting a group of three free-spirited girls. She changes her name, her dress code, and quits school to be accepted in the gang, hoping that this will be a way to freedom.

It risks casting working class or poor black

It risks casting working class or poor black people into very stereotypical, inescapable “fates”, but if you watch it as just one girl’s struggle to deal with everything that society (and her own family) dumps on young girls, it’s actually very well filmed and acted.

Without Perspective (12,172 – 01 Jan 2026) The sixteen-year-old Marieme lives with her mother, the janitor Asma, her older brother Djibriland two young sisters at a housing development in France. When she flunks, she quits school and joins the gang of the troublemaker Lady with Adiatou and Fily and changes her name to Vic. They bully the students to get money, shoplift and go to Paris to spend the money. Marianne has a crush on Djibril’s friend Ismaël and when she has sex with him, she is considered sl%t by the neighborhood. She has an argument with Djibril, leaves home and begins her downfall, working for the drug dealer Abou. "Bande de filles", a.k.a. "Girlhood" (2014), is a Frenck drama about youths without perspective in life. The plot follows Marianne, who did not have effort in school and flunks. She joins a sisterhood led by Lady and works with a drug dealer against the will of her friends. My vote is six. Title (Brazil): "Garotas" ("Girls")

Excellent coming of age movie set in the

Excellent coming of age movie set in the Parisian ghettobased around the friendship of a group of black girls struggling to find their way in the world they found themselves. It felt very real, honest and believable to me.
