Plot summary

Mame Dennis, a progressive and independent woman of the 1920s, is left to care for her nephew Patrick after his wealthy father dies. Conflict ensues when the executor of the father's estate objects to the aunt's lifestyle and tries to force her to send Patrick to prep school.

Classic and full of heart. A must see - we watch it every few years around the holidays even though it's not necessarily a holiday movie - it's about acceptance, love and transformation - humorously told.

It’s a sentimental favorite of mine. The score

It’s a sentimental favorite of mine. The score is sweeping, grand and emotional, as is Mame herself. The photography and editing add to the emotion with spotlighted blackouts that isolate Rosalyn Russell from her surroundings in moments of introspection. As loud and boisterous as Mame is, in my mind she often has a tear in her eye, and I love her.
