Are We Good? is a raw, quietly devastating

Are We Good? is a raw, quietly devastating portrait of sudden loss and hard-won emotional growth. It follows Marc Maron at a moment when love expanded his world, only to be ripped away without warning. The film never leans on sentimentality; it trusts silence, timing, and the rhythms of a comic known for sharp edges to reveal something profoundly human beneath them. Intimate and unflinching yet a beautiful tribute to Lynn Shelton as well.

I can imagine putting together this footage to

I can imagine putting together this footage to make a coherent story would be tricky. But I found it narratively inconsistent. It was at least 5-10 minutes too long. I know enough about Maron to see the holes, and am not sure if you don't know much about him if it would make sense. It's unclear the range of time this covers. It jumped around oddly. They handled the audio recordings well, with the use of black screen. The only time there was animation, it portrayed guests in the garage, oddly most of those particular guests weren't interviewed in the garage. There was a touch of cheap looking AI, a photo with some fake wind added. There are some really fantastic and touching moments in the doc, and some good interviews, but overall it felt like a compilation of behind the scenes footage of a behind the scenes story. Like extra footage from another complete story that we didn't get to see. Or a rough cut of something in development. My favorite was the trailer of this doc, the music and the editing were perfect. Too bad that didn't carry over to the doc itself.

I’m a Maron fan, so I’m biased…but this

I’m a Maron fan, so I’m biased…but this was SO good! Packed full of great interviews by fellow comedian friends, a couple of foes, industry folks, family, etc. Lot’s of vulnerable behind the scenes footage of Marc trudging through his life and career while grieving the loss of his beloved. It’s a beautiful deep look at the complicated genius disaster that Maron truly is, and isn’t. Recommended for fans of comedy, podcasting, the messiness of grief and loss, candid interpersonal relationships, and truly anyone who is a fan of independent documentaries.
