Plot summary

When Naomi, a young refugee from Nazi-occupied Paris, moves into Alan Silverman’s building in New York, he does his best to avoid her. But despite Naomi's strange behavior and the language barrier, they slowly develop a deep and touching friendship.

Kissed a lot of frogs until I finally found a movie about the Holocaust done with modesty and sensitivity. Nicely restored saturated colors of the period. It’s a tale of a deeply traumatized young Jewish girl from France who now is trying to survive after she came to New York with her mother. A married Jewish couple in her new neighborhood force their young son to provide companionship. The two young actors are doing an extraordinary job delivering their characters, while avoiding exaggerations and baseless melodrama. There is no unrealistic happy ending to the story, neither extreme hopelessness. Very worthy, with the exception of the sugary song heard with the final credits.

Really sad movie...but good. I liked Lukas Haas's

Really sad movie...but good. I liked Lukas Haas's character the most; he brought a lot of heart and emotion to the movie. The ending leaves you wondering, and usually I don't like those kinds of endings, but the rest of the movie was so good that I still rate it high.
