A pretty good story of racial integration, Ed

A pretty good story of racial integration, Ed Harris gives a good performance. It held my interest, but it's nothing great. Louis Malle's direction is a plus, but I would have expected more from him.

★★ (out of four) Disappointing Louis Malle film

★★ (out of four) Disappointing Louis Malle film about racial tensions in the Texas town of Alamo Bay. There are some good things here, including the acting, especially from Ed Harris, but overall the film just doesn't catch fire. The fishermen of a Texas coastal town become enraged when a local businessman hires several Vietnamese workers. Ed Harris plays Shang, a fisherman who is facing bankruptcy due to loss of work. He leads a campaign against the businessman despite his relationship with businessman's daughter, played by Amy Madigan. It sounds like a great film, but it just doesn't take off like it should. The Ku Klux Klan involvement looks kind of funny. I really wanted to like this film more, but I just can't recommend it.
