Plot summary

This year marks the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s iconic Eurovision victory, a milestone that calls for a celebratory cinematic tribute fitting for the ultimate pop band. ‘ABBA: Against the Odds’ unveils the epic journey of ABBA’s rise to global fame. Vague and inconsistent storytelling that leaves the audience

Vague and inconsistent storytelling that leaves the audience with an overall incomplete narrative. It's redeemed by some great footage and historical interviews. If it had at least another six months to retain more footage to flesh things out and refine the editing to make sure they answered questions that were posed and didn't dwell too long on odd moments, it could've been a strong documentary.

Held my attention

7.5 stars.I might return to see this again in 5-10 years. What is so interesting about this band is how intelligent and charismatic they were. I feel that they made it work, they saw the potential for fame and they stayed the course even through extreme adversity.ABBA probably shouldn't have been a successful band, but they amazingly stuck with it. I have been inspired by this story about this marvelous bunch of gifted singers and songwriters, one of a handful of bands that I consider the very best of the best.If you're not familiar with their music, you are missing out on one of the wonders of the music world. I feel they share the glory of being one of the GOAT bands like The Beatles, Eagles, Stones, Queen, Beach Boys, CCR (and several more). Listen for yourself to compare the raw emotion their music evokes inside you. Don't focus on what may seem "cheesy" or otherwise; there are movies and musicals based upon their amazing music (Mama Mia!). For how many other bands can you say the same? Beatles? Nope, although there are Vegas shows that feature them. "Jersey Boys" covers The Four Seasons. That about sums it up. People love ABBA, don't let mainstream critics fool you.

Interesting documentary... but

I wish it was better because it deserved to be, but it was all over the place in terms of the timeline. Nothing was really in chronilogical order, which was a shame.They moved from one album to the next, but the next was the album before they just went over, so it needed some real good re-editing.Knowing Me, Knowing You is covered, but that album came after the next song, Dancing Queen, in the documentary. It made no sense, and some of the stuff was repeated too many times like Agnetha's fear of flying, she literally talked about that 5-6 times.And the biggest shame is they did't interview any of the band members for this documentary, it's all old footage.
