Kept waiting for a story to show up

I can't believe I watched this to the end. I kept thinking there's got to be a story here. But no.I'm sure there's been duller Hallmark movies but I usually quit watching them about 20 minutes in. I must have been in a long suffering mood to watch this entire movie. So much to dislike : There's a bookstore to "save". It's a big space but there's never any customers. Elise keeps finding notes from "gram" to keep going and not lose heart. I hate to be cynical but the platitudes throughout this film fall flat without an actual story. Carlos Marks is handsome and likeable as the male lead but even he is reduced to uttering platitudes in this non story! Something about petals and cider and festivals and book clubs but no story arc, no real tension, ( what happened to that promising career she took a month leave from)? And very little romance. And while I'm at it, that pink poufy mini dress in the last scene looked awkward and silly.

THIS MOVIE HAD POTENTIAL, BUT JUST MISSED THE MARK!

Yes folks its another "save the bookstore" story complete with a town festival. Now there have been times when good actors and a strong romance or clever dialog can still save these familiar storylines, so that's why I watched. .Elise (Emily Tennant) returns to her hometown to sell her grandmother's bookstore which holds lots of cherished memories for her. Elise sees her old crush, Max (Carlo Marks). Both Elise and Max have unfulfilled dreams--Elise to finish her novel, and Max to expand the family's apple and cider business. As they travel on their respective journeys they encourage each other to fulfill their dreams and they also rekindle old flames. Throughout the story Elise reflects on her grandmother's wisdom through journals she's left as a legacy to Elise. The leads had good chemistry, personally, the movie needed a tiny bit more romance, the supporting cast was decent, but its just the slow pace and obvious predictability of the script that hurts this movie. There was just something missing that it needed to make it a very good movie rather than just another "save the bookstore and farm" story. The cat, Clover, couldn't quite save it either, but she sure was a cute addition!
