A film worth seeing but there were some

A film worth seeing but there were some problems in the script. Grace appears to reject the man crazy lifestyle of her deadbeat, food stamp craving mother in favor of getting ahead in school and not caring to run with the popular crowd at school. Grace dresses conservatively and appears to be an introvert. Then about an hour in there's this abrupt shift to her character where she's wearing her mother's sleazy dresses, high heels, and applying gobs of makeup. What gives? There's little or no transition point between the two Graces portrayed. And what about her love interest? He just seems to fade into the woodwork as Grace explores her sexuality, with the promiscuous Cher as her role model. Then Grace out-duels Cher in the promiscuity department by crashing a low life gathering and doing a pole dance to seduce a tattooed white dude. The writer should have taken this script into a Writer's Workshop and had it critiqued before investing the film money. And what of the dialogue? At times it feels like white peeps are talking, white words out of black mouths. If the arc of character was fixed I would find this flick more believable. But it goes KLUNK at important times during the coming of age of Grace, making it an average film at best. I will say however that the thing that lifts it above average are the acting skills of the woman who plays Lisa, Grace's mother. She's believable in most scenes, even when she starts sounding like a white woman.

This is a Harvey Weinstein special. There is limited or no redemption and plenty of exploitation in the image of character in this movie. If you want to get through it, take a break and a deep breath before diving back in. The writer exploited everything pure about the main character and showing a little humanity, logic or empathy in all but one of the others. Fortitude in humanity would have been refreshing, but those sparks were missing. If you want to feel miserable for a spell, watch this film.

This has got to be the worst movie

This has got to be the worst movie ever filmed. The trailer made it seem like it would at least be decent, but man. The plot was all over the place and the acting was terrible. This movie served no purpose.
