Plot summary

Poor Charlie Brown. He can't fly a kite, and he always loses in baseball. Having his faults projected onto a screen by Lucy doesn't help him much either. Against the sage advice and taunting of the girls in his class, he volunteers for the class spelling bee.

The Peanuts gang’s full-length debut is considerably a breakthrough at the time for such narrative extension enlarging the beloved qualities more artistically expressed on acceptable canvas. It brings much joy when watching the televised specials as part of its creative integrity retaining the pessimistically mixed humor, though felt like a deliberate cheat in comparison to how the fifth film years later feels more wholesomely considerate. For what it is, without much meaningful cheer, it’s definitely one of the moderate best animated films in the 20th century that’s artistically unique, evocatively sympathetic, and remains to be enjoyably fun by nostalgic imprint that validates its decent heart. Excellent debut feature for our beloved Peanuts gang

Excellent debut feature for our beloved Peanuts gang; numbers among it's best... With superb animation from series regular Bill Melendez; (who had just scored an Emmy with "A Charlie Brown Christmas" a couple years before, which was hailed as an instant classic); there's also great songs from the always reliable Leslie Bricusse and Rod McKuen; and an excellent story about our put-upon hero Charlie Brown finally gaining some confidence by winning a Spelling Bee. Very fun and entertaining; top of the line entertainment for kids. Overall: Recommended ?
