Plot summary

A Bit of Light is a film that

A Bit of Light is a film that leans almost entirely on dialogue to explore a strained father-daughter relationship, but that approach ultimately works against it. From the start, it feels overly talkative and slow, spending too much time circling ideas instead of developing them into something emotionally engaging. The screenplay is the biggest issue. It feels bloated and time-wasting, constantly suggesting that something meaningful is coming, only for it to never fully arrive. While there are a few genuinely sad moments, they don’t land with the impact they should because the film fails to build emotional momentum. When a movie bores you for long stretches, it becomes difficult to suddenly care when it asks you to feel something. The direction doesn’t help matters. Instead of tightening the story or finding visual ways to enhance the emotion, the film drowns in its own seriousness. By the end, it feels less like a quiet character study and more like a missed opportunity.

Anna Paquin does a wonderful job of acting

Anna Paquin does a wonderful job of acting. The story is unusual enough to keep it interesting. Neil’s character gives her a chance to think it all through and to regain hope. A good story.
