Plot summary

8-Bit Christmas is an unapologetic slice of nostalgia-bait that leans heavily into 1980s tropes, but it manages to be harmless fun for the whole family. While it’s certainly not a new Christmas classic on the level of the films it references, its earnest heart and relatable quest for a Nintendo Entertainment System make it a fun enough watch to pass the time during the holidays. It may be a bit corny at points, but the charming performances and retro aesthetic provide a cozy, low-stakes viewing experience.

8 Bit Christmas seems to try a little

8 Bit Christmas seems to try a little too hard to gin up nostalgia among older millennials and young gen-exers and comes off as a "bit" unauthentic. At the same time it makes a play for our kids too, but instead of toeing the line it sort of falls into no man's land.
