Plot summary

An unsettling feeling overwhelms a small Hungarian town when two orthodox Jews arrive with a mysterious trunk. As residents begin to speculate on the purpose of the visit of these two strangers, order starts to crumble in town with some pursuing devious plans and others finding remorse in their hearts.

It is a riveting post-holocaust Western, the scenes without dialogue spoke much louder than its few trivial conversations. It is up there with 3:10 to Yuma and High Noon. Some have compared 1945 to A Fist Full of Dollars, perhaps because they are both terse, but 1945 is far superior.

The movie is fantastic. Stark images, fabulous photography

The movie is fantastic. Stark images, fabulous photography - reminiscent of Hitchcock. As a Jew who grew up after the Holocaust, but lived in the shadow of it - watching the pervasive guilt while feeling grief is moving and difficult but worthwhile.

Nagyon jó film szerintem belehett sorolni a legjobb magyar filmhez. Hatalmas dicséret a stábnak. (Google Translate) I think a very good film can be classified as the best Hungarian film. Huge praise to the crew.
